POSITION DESCRIPTION: GENERAL MANAGER


As a newly created peak body, First Nations Bushfood and Botanical Alliance Australia is recruiting a General Manager whose duties will be to assist the board in both strategic and operational requirements.

Negotiable based on experience up to $120,000 pa inclusive of superannuation


Probation: 3 months

THE OPERATING ENVIRONMENT


First Nations Bushfood and Botanical Alliance Australia is the peak national body for First Nations people and participation in the bushfood and botanical space.


PRIMARY PURPOSE


The overall responsibility of the Alliance is working towards developing and implementing the Alliances key actions which were established at the National Indigenous Bushfood Symposium in 2019 at a meeting of 120 First Nations people.


These are:

  • Implementing protocols to set national standards on how to work with First Nations people in the industry:

  • Provenance and authenticity: to protect First Nation producers, respect our protocols and recognise our custodianship.

  • Changes to the law: to respect and protect First Nations knowledge in bushfoods and bush products should be protected by the laws of this land and business practice. This includes intellectual property; penalties for misappropriation and implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing.

  • Education and Awareness: promote respect for our First Nations Knowledge values and protocols.


The General Manager will work closely with the board of directors to achieve these actions


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The General Manager will perform the following duties:


Business Strategy & Structure

Work closely with the board to develop and ensure implementation of the business strategy, systems and structures, having regard to these key actions. This role will be responsible for driving business and operational plans to meet overall strategy.


Finance


This role will be responsible for the development of an annual budget for First Nations Bushfood and Botanical Alliance Australia and identifying how the organisation can be financially suitable into the future including looking for sponsorship and grants and income generating activities.


Management


The General Manager will be responsible for managing future staff and the organisational budget as well as working with the board to meet organisational governance and compliance requirements.


Membership development


The General Manager will be responsible for growing membership and servicing members needs


Partnerships


The General Manager will be responsible for identifying and fostering appropriate partnerships to deliver FNBBAA’s mission.


Operations


The General Manager will be responsible for establishing and managing the day-to-day operations of the organisation including finance, HR, IT systems, marketing, board secretary services and governance systems.


To effectively perform these duties, the applicant must demonstrate experience and knowledge in the following areas

  • Demonstrated experience working in with First Nations people or communities

  • Strong knowledge of key stakeholders and the policy environment of Indigenous affairs.

  • General management skills, including working knowledge of finance, IT & marketing.

  • High - level oral and written communication skills including the ability to write reports, grant & funding submissions.

  • Strong relationship building skills, including proven experience fostering relationships with a range of stakeholders, including community organisations & Government.

  • Ability to travel and work out of regular business hours if and when required.

  • Extensive experience in Project Management, including developing and acquittal of operations and budgets.

  • Ability to work with training providers to develop and implement national training program around food safety

  • Any other duties deemed necessary to achieve the mission & goals of FNBBAA
